Until the time of the conquest of Mallorca by King Jaime I in 1229 the Jews and Muslims lived together in pace.The word Xueta is the name given to the group of descendants of the Conversos, Mallorca Jews converted to Catholicism during the Inquisition,who still constitute a distinctive group of people on the island.
