Palma Carthedral Colours and Numbers

The metaphysical significance of the numbers in Palma Cathedral

The basis of many churches is sacry geometry and proportion. Numbers had a metaphysical significance, and were thought to have occult power. Every aspect of the medieval cathedral utilized that significace: the number of pillars in the choir, the ratio of the levels of in the triforium, etc. Rose windows are no exception to this rule. The triangle means stability trascending duality. Our rosewindow composed of twenty four triangles twelve of them represent the shape of six pointed star.

The most visual presence of the three in the cathedral is the one of its architectonic structure , it is a cathedral of three naves, the cathedral can be perceived like the conjunction of three churches.

1.The first that was constructed named Chapel of the Trinidad, there is above, to  where the pantheons of the mallorcan kings are located

2.Second , the  Royal Chapel, where it is now the altar and presbitery.

3.Third it arises when the construction is tripled and appeared the building of the three aisles.

There are three the rosewindows , entering by the greater vestibule.

There are three the most excellent lampadarios,

1.the one of the seven lamps on the episcopal chair,

2.the one of the octogonal crown of the baldaquino on the  greater altar and

3.the one of lucerna conical truncated in center of the central nave.

Number three is not absolutely strange to the cultural patrimony of the Church.

The Christians adore a trinitary God

1.Father,

2.Son and

3.holy Spirit

Three are three teologal virtues - faith, hope and charity.

Not only the Christian cultural patrimony has been constructed, partly, on the paradigm of the three. The old civilization celta counts on the three spirals of the Kristel, Dante divided in three parts the Divine Comedy, are famous the three laws of Newton.

The great reform that Obispo Campins proposed to the artis Antonio Gaud formulated through a triple charge:

1. to obtain an altar for God,

2. a chair for the bishop and

3. a great space for the people.

A day in Majorca

Cruise passengers

Shore excursion in Palma de Mallorca. You have the same freedom of movement as if you were on your own, but without wasting your precious time finding your way around town ....

For the Med. we felt we made the best decision in spending for the private tours since the attractions and cities were further apart from the ports where the ship docked. Plus there is so much more to see and take in as far as history goes in the Med., so we were glad to have a local explain it all to us and not have to worry about the logistics of train schedules on our own or be held up by the crowds on the ship's tour.

Perfect shore excursion : We pick you up at the pier. Show you around the main Sigts . For a whole morning or afternoon or even for a full day, before driving you back to the pier

Culture is an ever-present element in the life of the island. All year round there are festivals, concerts, literary competitions, exhibitions, recitals, theatre performances… The city of Palma de Mallorca is the cultural and artistic centre of the island, and is outstanding for the excellent conservation of its historic centre. Be sure to take a stroll around the old town and enjoy the varied, entertaining nightlife. Every year, Majorca's charm attracts famous politicians, film stars, personalities from the world of fashion... they make the island their holiday destination.

Majorca has excellent communications by air and sea. Airlines from numerous countries operate out of its Son Sant Joan international airport, eight kilometres from Palma. The island also has transport links with the rest of the archipelago and the Spanish mainland via boats and scheduled ferry services that sail from the ports of Palma and Alcúdia. These excellent communications mean that from Majorca you can make visits to other Balearic Islands, such as Ibiza and Minorca, with return day-trips possible

Corsairs and pirates

Piracy and corsarismo only they differ for the legality of their actions of robbery. The corsairs were enjoying the famous "letter of marque" granted by the State to attack the ships and goods of enemy countries, and had to satisfy rather per cent of their earnings that  could come up to 20 % to the public exchequer

"Letter of marque "
Since Fernand Braudel wrote: " The Corsairs, this lawful form of war, is not an exclusive activity of an alone group and an alone person in charge or culprit does not know. It is endemic. All persons, wretched and powerful, rich and poor , cities, nobles, states ... they are tangled in the meshes of a network stretched from end to end of the Mediterranean, for all its shores ".  www.visitapalma.galeon.com

The corsairs were something like " capitalist businessmen " who were arming their fleets to extract big benefits. Of the activity corsaria they were benefiting the nobles, clergymen, merchants and families xuetes, very related to the sea. Also it was the last resource of regions with scanty economic means, as it is happened in Eivissa's island, where the corsairs have even one monument

. The piracy was, on the contrary, a depredation not controlled by the State, which nevertheless also it was benefiting of it.

It was a traditional activity in the Mediterranean from the Antigúedad, though during the XVIth and XVIIth century it grew extraordinarily because of the political conflicts and the reigning insecurity.

The clash of Carlos I with Francisco I of France and the alliance of the latter with the Ottoman Empire turned to the Islands in a border between two worlds: north and south, Christianity and Islam, Europe and Africa.

Corsarios y Piratas
